Station to station
Is this coming through?
I'd like to think I know
But mostly I have no clue
That said
There's nothing here at stake
Save for an ego
Just slightly bruised
And that's nothing
That's of real concern
So light up
Let's see if this bridge burns
All the eyes
They fall on you
I watch them as
You enter the room
But hold my voice
From the chorus of your admirers
And mind my place
Mind my place
Station to station
Do we speak in code?
I'd like to think we do
But suspect we're different modes
And that's something
I know awfully well
With my job
As mayor of Friendsville
Station to station
Here's a montage
That highlights what could've been
If this weren't a mirage
If this weren't a mirage
All my Is
I change to the third person
To conceal
What lacks consensus
And bide my time
Until it's appropriate
To break this code
To break this code
To break this code
To break this code
To break this code
To break this code
To break this code
To break this

From Here On In

When the gate came down the walls closed in and I could barely breathe
Frozen that summer claiming separation from your past
It's easy to run out so easy to let the overwhelming calm depart
But I'm still standing always demanding that some day this veil will fall
Set it in motion now for you I leave this offering
On Sunday morning it came back to me (back to me)
You set it in motion now from here on in it's gonna change
After all who is it you tried to save?
Wandering the town watching Autumn dress herself in white
Do you remember? Of course you remember our one silent exchange
When you'd never felt better with a full collapse into these open arms
I gather you'd favor a pleasant reminder of just how you wish to be
Set it in motion now for you I leave this offering
on Sunday morning it came back to me (back to me)
You set it in motion now from here on in it's gonna change
After all who is it you tried to save?
These tracks in the snow won't forget (that path colliding)
With a cough and a shallow breath (call it a warning)
You've lost your bearings when you went left (send a search party)
And watch the white wash over what's left of me
Distance and time is all we want and more
To never cross that threshold
Distance and time is all we want and more
To never cross that threshold
Distance and time is all we hoped for
Forget foreit that threshold
Don't say what you mean to mean what you say
(Distance and time is all we hoped for)
Words all spill out without you repeating
Those three words in fleeting lose meaning to me
(Forget, foreit, meaning, to me)
Set it motion now for you I leave this offering
on Sunday morning it came back to me (back to me)
You set it in motion now from here on it'll never change
I could have sworn June turned her back on me

God willing & the creek don't rise
God willing & the creek don't rise
God willing & the creed don't rise
Arbor Oaks is dying, I know
With each razed house, it fades away
Arbor Oaks is dying, it's slow
A fate set in motion 35 years ago
Can you rebuild this house?
The lot's vacant
The driveway's gone
The tree's still there
Her special palm
Most neighbors left
With FEMA checks
Defeated by floods
Their houses wrecked
There was no hope for our home
With each year, I'm more removed
A disconnected stranger
With memories of these roots
And all the floods that we lived through
'81, '89, '92
'81, '89, '92
They say the bayou will overflow
The water's already knee-deep
You gotta leave now
You gotta leave now
C'mon, get on the boat
Can you rebuild this house?
The lot's vacant
The driveway's gone
The tree's still there
Her special palm
Most neighbors left
With FEMA checks
Defeated by floods
Their houses wrecked
There was no hope for our home
God willing & the creek don't rise
In dreams I work to repair
A house that lives and dies nightly
With images that I swear
Remain to this day crystal clear
Can you rebuild this house?
My heart's vacant
The connection's gone
Are you still there, my special one?
We're all that's left
Just look and check
It's thicker than blood
I'm still a wreck
There was no hope for our home
Arbor Oaks is dying
To me, it's already dead
They will take away
They will take away
The remnants of Cypress Grove Lane

Some Day, Sunlight
03:32
|
|||
In the woods you'll hear them call closing in on their prey
Haunted hallows look so inviting in an awkward way
Find the roads that lead you on heavy stones that bring you home
The trees won't mind you finding hidden stories at their core
The shoreline whispers float on, float on because
Some day, sunlight will find you slowly blowing your cover
Run down crumbling hills you'll bleed and moan 'til you're out of here
Hands raised we close our eyes and pray for our strength to be full on
In church pews in silence you hum the hymns and murmur "Oh Father, I've
Tried to abstain from the ways that made me this hungry monster now"
Pride comes before a fall and who knows how far I'll go under
The shoreline whispers float on, float on because
Some day, sunlight will find you slowly killing your brother
On that day you'll wake up pleading with your soul to get out of here
Mayday over and over static silence recovered
Drowning under ice floes dearly departed now
Spotlights hover high above tonight
Break free cast a shadow in the moonlight
Call to arms on the banks radio has no spark
Clinging to driftwood alone in the dark
Spotlights hover high above tonight
Broke free left no trace in the moonlight
Call to arms on the banks radio has no spark
Clinging to driftwood alone in the dark
Some day, sunlight will find you slowly killing your brother
On that day you'll wake up pleading with your soul to get out of here
Mayday over and over static silence recovered
Drowning under ice floes dearly departed now
